The Days of the Nancy Hank

Katie Darsey
The cargo trains can not compare to the former days of glory when the Nancy Hank
made frequent stops from Savannah to Tennille to Macon and to Gordon and on to Atlanta, GA.

The Nancy Hank was named after a racehorse who was named for Abraham Lincoln's mother.
The Nancy that I knew was really Nancy II making it's first run in 1947.

The popular passenger train left Savannah, GA each day at 7:00am and made a 6 hour run.
It's traveling days were over on April 30, 1971.

Those days were before the overpass was built.

"Train-on-the-track" was a good excuse for
being late for school.

However, some teachers had no mercy and declared that
we all knew when the train was coming
 and we should plan accordingly.

The old water tower still stands.

I seem to remember that a man lived just under the water tower.
I always thought he was a hobo.
I was afraid of him when I was younger.
As I grew up I learned that he was simply deaf and dumb
and harmless.
He only tried to scare the kids who poked fun of him.

The Norfolk Southern and The Sandersville Railroad cargo trains
continue to make several trips each day up and down the railways of Tennille.

A Soft Quilt and a Red Chippy Chair

Nothing feels better than cooler days,
open windows,
and a soft light-weight quilt.

The chippy, red chair I found in Nashville.
Yard Sale, $2

Another vendor was protecting her snow globes.

She left it.

Sure hope she meant to leave it.

If so, it's MINE!

Great patina.  Just my kind of find!

Good Night or Good Tuesday AM,

Bonnie:)
Let me know if you're still out there.
I'm feeling really lonely these days in blogland.
Few comments make me sad:)

Ironstone: Pretty Is as Pretty Is

"Big Daddy" was a little man.  He had a wife called "Big Mama."

He would often say, "Pretty is, as pretty does."

Living next door, he'd often seen the not-so-pretty "is" in me:)

Ironstone to me is the pretty-is!

It's pretty as a collection-
showing all the various shades of white,
shapes of handles and rims,
and pretty details.

It's pretty in a small vignette.

and pretty as a single piece.

However it is displayed or whether it is displayed,

Ironstone is pretty is as pretty as it gets!

Peace

Sunday School lesson for today was from Titus 3:1-2:

"Remind the people
To be subject to rulers and authroities,
To be obedient,
To be ready to do whatever is good,
To slander no one,
To be peaceable and considerate,
And to show true humility to all men."

I posed the question:
"In a National Democratic or Repulican Convention, what are some things that you see?"

Answers:
"Excitement.  Music, Applause, Hoopla on the upside and
LIES, DECEPTION, SLANDER on the downside."

Question:
"How should the fact that you are a Christian change the kind of citizen that you are?"

The answer can be found in the verse above...

PEACEABLE
CONSIDERATE
HUMBLE

Sadly, I'm not sure that everything that was said was peaceable and considerate.

However, peace is not the absence of conflict.
WHEW!

I'm glad that peace is not the resut of the external

rather

an INWARD GRACE.
Thank you, Jesus.

Where I seek peace...

In corporate worship with other believers

or in my own personal time of quiet reflection and examination
(this is where I most often discover peace)

In music and song

Reading letters from my mama
and the highlighted verses and notes from her Bible.

God help us to be makers of peace in a hostile world.
