I Will Not Make a Mad Dash to the Mall

I really don't like the crazies of the holidays.

A mad dash to the mall + road rage + push and shove +
grab and poke + long lines + exasperated customers and disgruntled employees
=
one crazy, unstable, extreme woman

This year I'm not going to do it.

I'm buying on-line.
I'm shopping local during the middle of the day
when the crowd is away.

I want to get all of my decorating
done before Thanksgiving.

I know!  Don't shoot me down!
My daughter and her husband are coming
and they won't be home for Christmas.

Today I went to Hobby Lobby.

This is my start.

The first thing I got out was my mama's candy dish.
She kept kisses or peppermint candy all year round.
This year I have both, candy cane kisses.

I found one of my Santa mugs pushed to the back of a cluttered shelf.
I got the brush tree today at Hobby Lobby.
Yes, I copied Pinterest!

I have wanted trees like this for years.
Today was my day-all Christmas 1/2 at Hobby Lobby.

To Do:
1.  Spray paint the lantern red.
2.  Add more candies
3.  Add some red candle holders
4.  Add white candles and tie a red ribbon around them.
5.  Add some boxes or books for height.

I will not rush, I will not dash, I will not push, I will not shove, I will not have a break down.

To Be Continued...

Bonnie:)

  1. Good for you! What you started looks great.
Heather and I both had the day off and we were planning to go to Hobby Lobby, but the awful storm stopped us. :(

  2. There is always so much to do this time of year and I agree that the rush and crowd parts are best left behind. I love your vintage Christmas decorations.

  3. I adore your vignette and how special your mom's candy dish is. I love shopping at HL!

  4. I agree, I will not go to the mall at Christmastime. It is a mad house. I avoid Walmart any chance I get every day of the month because of all the chaos.
You are getting a good start on your decorating, I love what you did with the trees, the mug and especially your mothers candy dish.

  5. Good on you!!! If starting "early" saves your sanity then go for it I say, and as you say if your daughter isn't there for Christmas how lovely that she will see your decorations at thanksgiving instead! As long as you are happy and enjoying yourself that is all that matters. Oh, and of course, your decorations are beautiful!!! I love the santa/tree mug! xx

  6. I love to shop but I don't like the crowds! I stopped shopping on Black Friday years ago! I have placed 4 big orders and will be doing most of my shopping on-line! I find that there are so many choices at the stores that I don't get as much done! Enjoy your day dear friend! Your decorations are looking beautiful! HUGS!

  9. I am having family for Thanksgiving so I have 1/2 autumn and 1/2 Christmas. I am going to hold off shopping the week before Christmas (I did buy one gift already). I got my trees last year from hobby lobby.

  10. I'm right there with you....no pushing, shoving or losing my marbles. (I only have a few left, must keep them intact!) Love that you're getting decorated for your family...so sweet!
We will be doing our decorating the Saturday after Thanksgiving while my Mom is here visiting....I'm kinda excited!!!

  12. Isn't that what Pinterest is for? For inspiration to copy? As for the crowds, I do not go into a store aside from the local grocery store from before Thanksgiving till New Years. I did that even before my ankle injury. I can't take the crowds. And I find it kind of depressing that people just buy, buy, buy. I stopped buying for most years ago and so did they. I would much rather someone put in time feeding the poor or giving to a shelter in my name. Or just spending time with me.

  13. We are doing the same thing at our house this year, Bonnie. Our son's family is coming in for Thanksgiving week, but won't be back for Christmas. So, my two granddaughters (9 & 10) are going to help me decorate the tree...and the house.

Your decorations are beautiful! And good for you...no mad dashes to the mall!

  14. Nice and Easy is my motto also. I have avoided the stores during the rush for years. I just won't do it. Not the Christmas spirit I want. I buy online a lot and really only buy for my Grandson and stocking stuffers for my kids. I'm ready to decorate as soon as the Turkey is eaten!

  15. I went in to my first Hobby Lobby back in PA and loved it. Love those bottle brushes too!

I always avoid the mad rush and do it early and mostly online.

  16. What a cute vignette! You are definitely getting into the spirit! I have a mirror very similar to your oval one...I made a chalk board out of mine! I very much dislike the Black Friday thing...no offense to anyone but I can't possibly think this honors our God in any way, shape or form. Sometimes it makes me sad to think about what Christmas has become for so many. I want to go back to the old days. Wanna go with me?? :)

  17. I am taking it easy this season and enjoying the month of december. little by little the Christmas décor is going up ( mostly the posts that I have done). our shopping is typically done on-line except for some stocking stuffers for the kids. You are off to a good start.

  18. Love your color scheme, Bonnie! ;) Like you, I'm trying to get my decorating done before Thanksgiving. Looks like you're off to a good start!

  19. We decorate before Thanksgiving, too...makes the holiday feel extra festive and then I'm ready for Christmas! I love your idea for shopping...we never do Black Friday...

  20. I like that Santa mug and bottle brush tree. My auntie Ang use to call those peppermint kisses "Angel Kisses" when we were kids. Sweet memories. You are blessed having your mom's candy dish. I am very lucky that I at least have my parents wedding photo. I always wanted my fathers bible but my mother would not give it to me. Made me sad. So I will just always keep the memories in my mind. I need a trip to Hobby Lobby. It has been a while...

  21. I cannot even tell you the last time I've been in a mall. Seriously ~ I never think about it. I'd rather buy from shops, boutiques or online. I just don't have the money to spend a lot anymore either.

    Great candy dish! :)
