Red, White and Blue Tablescape

I'm not sure that this setting qualifies as a tablescape. That's a blogger word that I've added to my vocabulary, but one of those words that you use lightly hoping that you are using it correctly. Either way, I sure do love the red, white, and blue.

I did away with most of my red when I remodeled my kitchen last year. So, today I took advantage of the opportunity to add the patriotic theme and did what I do best, I went pickin'.
I fell in love with every piece of linen I passed.

The vintage ones, of course, are my favorites.
I never knew that George Washington was a tobacco user. Maybe he wasn't, but somebody thought he may have been. This tin can was old! It read "George Washington Tobacco." Anybody remember that one? I guess I'm too young:) or maybe it's because I'm not a tobacco user:))
With the gernaiums and flags, I think it makes for a great centerpiece.
I turned the tablescape into a vignette by adding the crate, a couple of cobalt bottles, a star and a red handled grapefruit knife??? and voila!
I'm feeling a tad more patriotic by the moment!
I'm Proud to be an American!
Happy 4th,

Old Homes and An American Flag

Just riding through the neighborhood and admiring some of the old homes. This is one of my favorites. I love the porch and the gazebo-like structure or sunroom. I'm not sure what they use it for or if they even use it at all. I know the people who live here. I went to school with the dad. I live in a town "where everybody knows your name." They are a sweet family. But I wouldn't just drop in uninvited.
I often wonder about the balconies in the old homes. Are they used anymore? Does anyone ever sit there, drink coffee and watch the world as it awakens? So many nooks an crannies, it would be a shame for them to not be used.
I have been in this home. It was built as a 2-home apartment. The owner is a caterer in our town. I went right up there and knocked on the door. This is a home that you can visit although uninvited. She was not home. Her husband, a detective, saw me noseying around. I courteously asked if I might take a few photos.
With good ole' southern hospitality, he said, "Sure, come on in." I didn't. "Please excuse the gas cans. I don' think my wife will be too happy about that."
"Shoot," I said, "Just adds a little character to the Harley you have there." I don't really know a Harley from a Honda! He must have known that. I got a funny look!
I just love a red door!
I wanted to be sure and get the motorcyle. The American flag blowing in the wind and transportation to ride with the wind-you can't get more Americana than that!

Summer Fruit and Veggie Stand

You can't call Zeke a young'n. No, I'd have to say he's quite a young man for a 15 year old. A fruit and vegetable stand man, he has been selling in our little town since he was 12 or 13 years old.
This scale belonged to his grandfather and has endured 5 generations.
Zeke is what I call a good, ole country boy who knows what it's like to earn his pay. I went to the Godfrey Tree Farm to get my Christmas tree last year and Zeke was there, helping the Godfreys trim and load trees.
He's learned early the value of a dollar. I asked him to let me snap a photo of the money. He reluctantly held out a wad of bills folded up and clutched tightly.
Enduring the 100+ heat on any given day, Zeke can be found selling the best produce in and around Washington County.
Need a watermelon or peaches for July 4? See Zeke.

Canning Jars, A Vintage Tablecloth and Tomato Sandwiches

I was so excited to find a cornflower blue canning jar. Though I love the aqua ones, I prefer this color. It was a very rare find. I saw one on ebay recently for $50! I paid $5!
I love decorating with jars. We used them for vases at our daughter's wedding reception and our son's rehearsal dinner. Our daughter got married in the heat of summer in the middle of August. Although the heat was smothering, the wedding was beautiful and so much fun! We decorated with buckets of daisies, milk bottles, canning jars, bird houses, and everything vintage. We were having so much fun, we failed to get pictures of the reception:(

Vintage tableclothes are my favorite. This doesn't exactly go with the flow from the kitchen to the living room, but I love it! Sometimes you just have to add something that makes you smile regardless of how it fits with the rest of the decor.
A vintage tablecloth and tomato sandwiches go together like peanut butter and jelly. Who needs to cook in the summer when you have bread, mayo, tomatoes, salt and pepper?!?
A birds eye view of some of my favorites. I bought this sunflower from a vendor the minute she brought it in. I do love getting to pick first-one of the benefits of being manager.
Please add your sweet comments, if you like. I'm not sure my followers are still out there since blogland went crazy and wiped me out.
Happy Monday Tomorrow!
