Turn Down the Music

Sammy B's is a neat little bar and grill
just a few minutes from where we live.

The building is called The Mill.

There is character and a certain aura to the place.

I had eaten in the meeting room
once with the Nasvhille Nerium group.

Last weekend Mr. H and I were nicely surprised by the live music.

The guy on keyboard was an incredible jazz player.
He introduced his group as students from
the local school,
Columbia University.

The girl sang,
"My Valentine."

The music was great!
I loved it, but I must confess, it was a little loud
for a table conversation especially
between two people who can't hear anyway.

Today when I was having my devotion,
I thought about that.

Sometimes we let the music in life,
although beautiful,
drown out meaningful conversation with God.

He's wanting to pull up a chair, sit a bit,
and speak.

Maybe I need to turn down the music.

  1. You are right can be beautiful music or just noise in general that gets in my way and I've posted about that before. Sometimes I just crave the silence :)

  2. I love jazz...glad you found a place to hang. But I love quiet more!

  3. Bonnie, Once I had my dearest friend say some thing about a man that went fishing on Sunday and not to church with his wife... I told her , You do not have to be in church to talk with God and you are more apt to hear him in the quiet of nature. When it's quiet is a very good time to be thinking of God . I loved this post. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  4. Loud music is a real problem for Louis church or wherever! Guess we are showing our age. Las Friday night we went to a local winery and the perfomer was called The Piano Man and it was awesome! He played a lot of Frank Sinatra music and it was just a perfect night!

  5. Me too:) Have a blessed evening dear friend, HUGS!

  6. The older I've gotten, the less I like noise of any kind. Live music seems to be the worst and I can just forget about going to the movie theatre. Yowza! Looks like a fun place, though. I'll bet the food was yummy and y'all had a good time.
Hope your day is blessed. ~:)

  7. You are so right!! How many opportunities have we missed just chatting awhile with the God of the universe?!

  8. I need to turn down the music, and I find it hard to do...
This looks like a fun place to go!

  9. Hello, I agree the loud music is way to hard for me to handle anymore. Boy your life sure has changed... I do hope your doing well! But I do desire more quiet than years past. Blessings to you dear friend!
    Hugs, Roxy

  10. A great analogy, Bonnie...sometimes we just need to Be Still...

  11. I so understand! I had breakfast this week with a friend of mine and we discussed daily devotionals, time with God, etc.

I do love beautiful music but can't take the really loud anymore. Age? Prolly so! :) Glad you had a good time though.

I love the friendships I have developed through blogging. Visit and comment and I'll be sure to drop by and talk to you.
