Fervent in Prayer

Prayerlife by Glaphre',
no longer in print,
changed my life.

At 24 years old, I had been a Christian
for a long time, but
full of fears and doubts.
I had seen God answer prayer for others.
I knew that He could, but would He...for me?

I wanted to believe that prayer would work for me.

It has been a journey.

I have prayed some prayers that were answered in a day.
However, I have prayed some prayers that I waited
years for God to answer.

Do you ever wonder,

Where is God when I pray?
Does prayer work?
Why doesn't it work for me?

Are you?

Frustrated in Prayer?
Defeated in Prayer?
Powerless in Prayer?
Don't know what to pray?
Don't know how to pray?
Don't have time to pray?

Haven't we all been there?
I have!

This is the book I will be teaching
in the Women's Bible Class.

The key verse in the book is found in
James 5:16

"The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." KJV
This is the translation that contains the title of the book

FERVENT.
(form of speech, adjective)
1. felt very strongly
2. very hot, glowing; exhibiting or marked by
great intensity;
zealous

A synonym for fervent is
ARDENT
implies an intense degree of zeal,
passion.

Has anyone seen WAR ROOM?

I haven't, but I intend to before I begin the study.

In your comments, I'd like you to share some of your thoughts on prayer,

What works for you?

What hinders you the most?

Or just your random thoughts on prayer.

  1. It's funny---I have never thought about making a dedicated time to pray. It is usually quick quips here and there--and never doubt that HE was listening. Never ever did it dawn on me HE was too busy---maybe I do take it for granted? But then again, he knows my heart already...so....who knows. (am I making sense?)

I have not seen the movie yet, and will wait to it comes on On Demand. I can't wait for you to share your Bible study (prayerfully you will, smiles) Many Blessings to you sweet friend.

  2. I have quit dedicating time to pray because I don't think it makes a difference. God will do His will, so, there's no point in my asking for, or wanting something I can't or shouldn't have. I just think a prayer when it's needed and leave it at that. Sometimes Hubby and I pray for whatever or whomever. I don't know if it makes a difference or not.
Hope your day is blessed. ~:)

  3. This sounds like an excellent bible study. I don't know how I could go through life with out prayer. The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Like you sometimes prayers have been answered right away and others have taken years and some still waiting on. I have seen some remarkable answers to pray over the years. The Lord is so good. I have not seen the War Room yet, was giving it to watch by a friend, but it was in blue ray.
    Joyfully,
    Cheryl

  4. The bible study sounds great! I try to pray always, throughout the day when I think of it as well as for urgent needs or concerns. I try to remember to praise and thank instead of just asking. The acronym ACTS (acknowledge, confess, thank, supplication)is good to follow but I can't say that I always do. Sadly my church stopped doing ladies bible studyies so I am looking for one.

  6. Hello Dear Bonnie, I did see the movie and it did have some good points! I did want to add that we do not hear very often after a prayer the statement; May it be according to your perfect will Lord.
I do hope your study goes very well and they grow in truth!
Prayer is a privedge and it helps us draw close to the Lord!
    Hugs, Roxy

  8. That movie is excellent!
For me a big part of prayer is consistently having my quiet time with God. When I don't do that, I don't feel that closeness to Him, and I feel like my prayers just hit the ceiling. We recently had a Sunday School class on prayer and one of the suggestions was to have a journal and write notes while praying. It seems crazy, but it really helps me to stay focused. Another thing was to jot down things if your mind wandered. It helps pull you back to where you were. I don't always do this, but it does make a difference when I do.

  9. War Room is a must see Bonnie. You will love it. Definitely watch it before the "Fervent" study. I love to keep a prayer journal. Where I journal my heart to God and list prayer needs in a seperste section. I also love to prayer scripture over others. Especially my daughters and Grands. I believe prayer is not just about asking God for others, situations or needs. I believe it is a vital conversation we need daily. If you don't talk to someone you will never get to know them. Reading Gods Word and talking with him daily keeps our relationship intimate and real. Blessings on the study. I know you will be a great encouragement to others during this.

  10. I haven't seen War Room either but I will be seeing it! I have heard nothing but great things about the movie! I have prayed and they were answered quickly, and praying... believing that God will answer! Not always the way I imagine, but accepting HIS answer:) Enjoy your day dear friend and this journey you are on! HUGS!

  11. I saw "War Room" last week.
As I was reading your post I thought about it even before you referenced it.
You're going to enjoy it and find it helpful. Wish I could be in your Bible Study class.

  12. The War Room is excellent, and really shows how important daily, specific prayer is.

What helps me most in my prayer life, is writing them out. I have many prayer journals and it's interesting to go back and see the answers, those the Lord said NO, and those He said wait, not now...and the many that were answered.

The book that changed my life forever is John Baillee's Diary of Private Prayer...first published in the 40's. It was and is, contantly leading me into deeper prayer.

Your Bible Study will be so helpful to those women who attend. I'm thrilled for the opportunity you have to be a facilitor in God's Word for these women. Hugs.
