Bone-Tired, Brain-Tied

As I wrote on Facebook last night,
I am bone-tired and brain-tied.

We have never built a house.
We lived in the same house for 35 years,
in the same town for 38 years,
and in the same county for 55 years.

I can tell you that what "they" say is true,
"If your marriage can survive building a house,
it can survive anything."

David shuts down when he's stressed.
I stress and my colon shuts down.
So, we're a physically and emotional mess right about now.

I'm too tired to be excited.
But, that will change, when the last item has been packed
and the last box is unloaded and we're finally home.

That's right, The Beverly Hillbillies!

I can't even begin to tell you the documents
we've signed,
over and over and over again.

How can a "Loan Estimate" change so many times?
And how do closing costs seem to vary $1000 at the time?
And why when asking "why?" do you get the feeling that they have no idea why?
"But just transfer another $1000 just in case.  We'll issue you a refund."
What???  Why???
They have no idea what we'll have to do get another $1000.

All said and done.
the final walk-through yesterday went great!
We have a wonderful builder, a very laid back young man.
Granite counter tops, tile and wood floors were basic.

Of course, I had to pay extra for my blue door.

Some things I love about our new home...

I love that our home is in a subdivision
with sidewalks.
The mailboxes are provided and I love it.

I love my covered deck with a fan!

I love my floors!

These almost didn't happen.
Lowe's delivered the wrong order.
I just happened to drop by one afternoon to see the progress.

WRONG color, kind, style.
Yuck!
Old School!

"Oops!  Sorry! Wrong delivery!"

Yelp.

That's why it pays to be an assertive buyer.

I'm so ready for this to be behind us, already!

This granny just may need a rocking chair.

"Take your shoes off, Ya'll come back now, ya here?"
The Beverly Hillbillies.

Watch out.
Here we come!

  1. Bonnie, hang in there, all the details will be finished real soon, and you will be in your home. It looks very nice, and I love the mail boxes. Moving can be so overwhelming and tiring, but we are blessed to have shelter and there's nothing quite like having a new home.

    love, ~Sheri

  2. I hear ya!! I'm reliving our move through your words. We didn't build but our new home was a foreclosure with the laziest and most frustrating agent EVER!!
The end is near......even if the move happens like the Hillbillies :))

  4. Bless your heart! I so understand the stress and confusion, especially with loans (I swear it's all a rip off). Anyway, we even moved like the Beverly Hillbillies!! Bits and pieces hanging off of our pickup and friend's trucks, making multiple trips because we couldn't afford a moving van. Even put all our stuff in temporary storage at a local farmer's empty silo. When the house was completed, I had to check all the furniture for *gulp* "visitors" before putting it into our new home. Well, the new digs sound heavenly. Can't wait for the photos of the finished product. And be sure to get a couple of rocking chairs for the front porch. Y'all deserve a rest.
    Luv ya ~:)

  6. It's almost over...take a deep breath. A month from now when are sitting on your covered deck feeling the cool breeze from your fan, it will only be a distant memory! You can remind me of this in a couple of years when we are going through the same thing :) So excited for you!

  7. I'm so happy for you!! Can't wait to see the rest of it. You will definitely love having that fan on the patio. Did you paint your porch ceilings "haint blue" ? If you wanted a blue door, why did it cost extra? Oh well, you're so right...they always seem to add extra $$$ to everything and your head is whirling already. Get some large, black garbage bags and just put any soft items in them! Lol!
