Leaving a Legacy

I must admit that I become somewhat discouraged when I'm visiting my neighbors in blogland.

So many great thrifters and decorators, and crafters and I merely take a cheap shot at photography and expression.

I try my hand at crafting...

...and this is as good as it gets.
I try my hand at tablescapes...

...and this is as good as it gets.

I try my hand at vignettes...

...and this is as good as it gets.
I try my hand at decorating...

...and I almost burn the house down.

Although, I haven't mastered photography or crafting and I barely know what a vignette or a tablescape is, I enjoy trying.
They (whoever "they" are) say "Practice Makes Perfect."

I'm not sure about perfect, but it will get better.

For now, I'll stick to what I'm the best at...

Being a good Bon-Bon

Loving my family

Living a life of faith that they will want to follow..

And leaving a legacy.

"And you shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you rise up.  And you shall write them upon the doorposts of your house and on your gates.  That your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, as long as the heaven are above the earth."  Deuteronomy 11:19-21

So I will choose to thankful for the most important things in life!

What is most important in your life?

Great Reasons for A Night Alone

Mr. H is in a softball tournament this weekend.

Do they ever grow up???

No, seriously, I'm great with it.
Thirty years ago it may have given me a good reason to pitch one of my coniption fits.
Today, it's a great excuse to enjoy some "me" time.

Some great reasons to have a night alone?

1.  Dinner for One can be a bowl of soup, a bowl of fruit, a bowl of ice cream, a sandwich or
ALL OF THE ABOVE!

2.  No one to share the remote with.  Can you believe that my husband, an avid sports fan of ALL sports for 52 years, has watched maybe 1 hour TOTAL of The Olympics??? (He's watched Braves Baseball, Wrestlemania, and Man in the Wild instead)
Me?  I've stayed up after he's gone to bed just so I could hear the stories of the athletes and cry while listening to our Great Anthem!

3.  I can rearrange every item in my cabinet to make vignettes and tablescapes without anyone looking at me and thinking I have lost my ever-loving mind!

Like this...

...or this

This...

...or this.

4.  I can act like a professional photographer and take as many photos as I want with my little Canon PowerShot without anyone asking, "What on earth are you doing?"

This was one of my mama's pitcher and saucer.

The pitcher above came from one of my vendors.  I have been eyeing it for quite some time.  She marked it down and it's MINE!

The last and most important reason for a night alone is...
5.  I can celebrate ME!

Someone gave this plate to my mama in 1979.  It was used to celebrate every birthday and every special occasion from 1979-2011.  It now belongs to me and my little family will continue the tradition because "Everyday is a celebration of life!"

What do you do on your night alone?
I'd like to hear from you.

Back to School Organization

"Out of the Mouth of Babes"-not sure if this is a quote from the Bible or a literary verse, however true.

My niece spent last night and today with me.  She is almost 9.
My sister and I have decided that she should be mine and my Christy should be hers.  We have each other's child-19 years apart.

I married young (17 years old) and my sister married old :)(32 years young).
In some ways, my niece is more like my grandchild.

Tomorrow she's back to school so she wanted one more day with Aunt Bonnie.

The Great Exchange:

Walmart (less than $10 rule because there are no yard sales on Thursday) , Paint (her choice of colors and my choice of design, Watch a Movie (her choice)

and

Clean and organize Aunt Bonnie's junk closet

"Aunt Bonnie, I'm great at organization."
YIPPPEEE!

Deal???

WELLLLL...

Walmart, yes...Paint, yes...Watch a Movie, yes...
Clean and Organize...................

Me:  "Sarah, I thought you liked to organize."

My niece:  "Well, I don't want to be mean, but Aunt Vickie's house (my sister in law) is wellllll."

Me:  "What Sarah??? Cleaner, nicer?"

My niece:  "Let me just say that I like to organize when everything is already clean."

Me:   "WHAT???"

She told me today, "I am just like you, Aunt Bonnie, so passionate about things."

I think she meant, "I say what I think, just like you."

She went to Open House and I organized.

I love this pretty white shelf.  It's not the typical "junk" shelf, but it's all I had for today.  I bought it for the shop.  Until I can find an old redo, this will have to work.

I had the sewing machine drawer at the shop for sale and brought it home to put my ribbon in.

Wooden boxes and galvanized buckets are great for holding just about anything.  The small bucket is just right for holding my paint brushes.

The larger bucket holds spray paint.

I have all the flowers and trimmings for a wreath-hangs here until ready.

I'll "already clean" one of these day, Miss Sarah.

Pic Monkey Collages

I realized tonight that I didn't post yesterday or today.
 Monday:
Resting from the weekend and spending quality quiet time with my Creator.

Tuesday:
The Hairdresser-color, highlights, and cut.

My appt. was at 8:30 am.  Got up at 9:00 a.m.

Grab a biscuit from McDonald's.
Rush in the shop.  No make-up, no shower, and hair in 20 different directions.
So what!  That's what I'm here for.  Oh well, minus the shower:)

Arrived at 9:30! LATE!

Me: "Just let me gobble this down."

My hairdresser:  "What are you doing?"

Me:  "I'm sorry I'm late.  Please don't send me home.  I just crawled out of bed."

My hairdresser:  "You're about 4 hours early."

Me:  "WHAT????"

The boss (of both Beauty Shop and Cornerstone Treasures:  "Since you're here already, how about doing the books for the shop and writing the checks?"

I'm  still not awake!!!

Today:

6:30  Mr. H wakes me up.

7:30  Quite Reflection

8:30  Take Mother in law to hospital for injections.  (6 bulging discs-I saw the report!)
It was good to spend time with my sweet MIL even in a hospital room.
She came home and is doing fine.

Tonight:  Painting with my Niece
