Hodgepodge Wednesday

http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/

1.  Are you ready for new? Is 2016 likely to be very different than 2015? Do you want it to be?

I look at a new year with anticipation as in a new beginning.  Don't we all want new beginnings, a chance to start over?  This past year was a great year, a year of transition, a year of change, a year of uncertainty, a year of wondering if we were going to have an income.  However, on faith we took the biggest step of our lives and moved to be closer to our children.  God has granted the desires of our hearts, but not without sacrifice.

2.  January 6th is National Technology Day. Currently, what is your single biggest struggle or frustration when it comes to technology?
Technology...ugh...My husband bought me a smart phone because he said I needed to know how to keep up with the changing world.  I'm getting better.

3.  It's that time again...time for Lake Superior University to present a list of words (or phrases) they'd like to see banished (for over-use, mis-use, or general uselessness) in 2016.  You can read more about the decision making pocess here, but this year's top vote getters are-
So (at the start of every single sentence), conversation (as in hotly debated topics where we're invited to 'join the conversation'), problematic, stakeholder, price point, secret sauce, break the Internet, walk it back, presser, manspreading (common in larger cities where some men take up the entire bus or train seat by sitting wide), vape, giving me life (refers to anything that may excite a person or make them laugh), and physicality

Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Is there a word not on the list you'd like to add?

I think the beauty of writing is being able to express yourself in whatever way you like.  I don't always use complete sentences.  Sometimes my mind rambles and I use run-on sentences. I use words and phrases that no one has ever heard of, words passed on from generation to generation in my culture.  So,(yes, there it is), I say speak or write whatever comes from your heart.  Who cares, what the professionals say.

What word would I add to the list? I think I've already answered that one.

4.  Share one of your current health related goals.

To get healthy.  I am a diabetic.  I have high blood pressure.  I am on three medicatons for Bipolar Depression.  I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism.  Getting my weight under control with healthy eating and exercise would benefit all of these.  Walking would help my depression.

5.  Let's talk fifty shades of gray. As in the color. Gray is currently a popular color in home decor, pain, wardrobes, wedding party attire, and more. Are you a fan? Do you have the color in some variation in your home or wardrobe? Gray hair, the old gray mare, gray matter, gray area...which gray idiom can you most relate to right now?

I don't know if my hair is gray or not because I color, highlight and cut.  My hairdresser says I have some gray.  I will never know.  I love gray in my home.  It has become my neutral.

6.  Certain foods are considered 'lucky' if eaten on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day.  Cooked greens to bring economic fortune, black-eyed peas or lentils also symbolize money, pork which symbolizes progress, fish for good luck, and if you're in Spain 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight.  Did you eat any lucky foods on the first day of the year? Is that a tradition in your home? Of the foods listed, which most appeals to you?

We always had black-eyed peas, cabbage or turnips, and pork.  It was a tradition.  We were superstitious, we just like good Southern cooking.

7.  What's the single biggest time waster in your life and what, if anything, will  you do about it this year?
Fretting over things, that never happen.  I am learning to trust God more and worry less.  I say, "I am learning."  I'm not there yet.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

My concerns right now are for my family.  I covet your prayers.  I can't go into all the details, but please pray for housing and financing.  Pray for my daughter as they search for answers to her eyesight.  Pray for my son and his family as they make a move in housing.

Happy New Year, My Friends,

  1. Good Morning, Bonnie. I certainly will remember you and your family in my prayers.
My niece just moved into a townhouse that is painted gray with turquoise accents; her style/décor remind me very much of yours. I also love touches of yellow with gray in decorating. Wishing you a nice day!

  3. I have noticed that I have been using So at the start of sentences so I have been trying to stop that. Nothing to do with this universities list though! xx

  6. Great hodgepodge answers! I thinks I could agree with just about everything you said, and I had to laugh at the one about the words you would like to see removed. I started my last post with SO :)

  7. Loved this! I could identify with lots of what you wrote. Love gray in wall color....the people who bought our house is changing the gold-ish colors to grays. And, it looks so refreshed! I'm still rather taken 'aback' when seeing my gray hair in the mirror :) oh well, it's easier and far less expensive this way!
God bless your day, my friend!
(Catching up on some blog reading this morning)
