Contentment

Content 

(as in adjective, not the noun)

being pleased and satisfied, at peace with things,

desiring no more than one has, satisfied,

peaceful happiness.

With the ringing in of a new year, 
the word "content" continues to ring in my ears.

I am not materialistic. 
It doesn't take much to make me happy.
I'm not a clothes, shoes or purse lady.
I like my hair colored and cut, but 
I am usually content in most "things."

Circumstances in which I have no control?
Well, I may want to change them. 

Maybe I need to think about that a bit.

Paul said, 
"I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned how to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty.  I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want."  
Philippians 4:11-12

In any and EVERY? situation???
Yikes!
Bullet between the eyes!

When we first moved, I felt like we were on vacation. 
For a couple of months, I felt like we were living in a luxury condo.
Seriously, I've never had new!

My house was old, but I was content. 
I had 3 bedrooms, a bath and 1/2.
I didn't much like the laundry room being outside. 
Who likes walking on ice cold concrete 
and who likes sour towels in the summer that weren't 
changed to the dryer the night before?

But I was content.  

So, I have this new apartment
(by the way, is more than a house payment!), 
and all new appliances, new carpet, bathroom, kitchen 
everything and I find myself grumbling and complaining.

We didn't have much, but we had one more bedroom.
Just one more space for the junk.
Does anyone else have a junk room?

So, I've found myself discontented 
because I don't have a place for the junk.

Can you believe that?


I like the large living space.


I've moved a few pieces of my heart around
and covered a broken lampshade with burlap.


I'm searching for pillows to add back the whites that I love.


All of that is good and another room would be great, 
but none of that will ever make me content.
Contentment is a mater of the heart.

It is in this very corner that I find contentment. 

A good cup of coffee, time in His Word, 
paper and pin to make notes will put things
in perspective EVERY time!


This is a NLT One Year Bible. 
I am ashamed to say that I have never read 
the Bible completely through.
I have probably read it in bits and pieces,
all of it, but not from first to last.

I guess that would be my New Year's Resolution. 

That...

and to be content in ALL circumstances.

1 bedroom, 2 or 3.
Content.


Callie says, "I got this! No problem! I am content!"

  5. Love this message! I really try hard to be content in all things, notice I said TRY:) I do have a junk room and it has lots of junk in it! It is always a work in progress to keep it clean and organized:) Enjoy your day dear friend, BIG HUGS!

  6. A great reminder this a.m., Bonnie. We have a junk room, a junk drawer and a junk garage...all full of useless junk! lol It is good to see Callie cat enjoying herself. Love to you and yours. Happy weekend.

  8. Love you! You are so real :) I got rid of SO much junk when we moved that I never want to accumulate junk again. But, wow, is that ever a constant battle!
    I'm so happy that you are able to have a cat at your apartment. So many places here say, No Pets!

  10. Contentment is a gift.....and i DO hope you find it again. :) Callie has the right idea....but then again, she'll go wherever YOU go and be happy. Right? Cat's don't have junk, just us people. XO
