A New Treasure: Tray "Made in Italy?"

Hidden Treasures
is the name of the Flea Market
in which
White Lace and Promises resides.

I can tell you one thing
treasures are hidden!

I go in there almost every Thursday,
Friday or Saturday,
and  I always find something I haven't seen before.

For most of us, it's
the thrill of the hunt that keeps us digging.

Just haven't been able to get out of town
for a real dig so I've dug around
at "Hidden Treasures."

I found this great tray in a vendor's junk pile booth.
Shhhhh, sometimes mine looks more like a junk pile too!

I love trays.  I buy and I sell.
They make great displays for a dresser top.

I use the same dried roses in many of my photos.
I move them from vase to vase,
from room to room.
I love them.

Small vases and creamers have many different uses.
Of course, milkglass hobnail is my favorite.
They stays mostly in the pink room
unless I am using for showers and events.

The hankie was my granny's.
My daughter carried it around her bouquet.

A closer view of the tray

The tray feels like plastic.
The Mark reads, "Florence, Italy."
The sticker says Florida.
Maybe it was originally made in Italy and the flowers
were painted or decoupaged in Florida.

Whatever, I don't care.
I like it.

Don't look too closely.
The dresser needs new knobs.
This is on my to-do list of projects.

Most vendors won't reveal where they dig.
Will you reveal yours?

Happy Monday,

BTW, this dresser was repainted with oil-based enamel paint,
what kind of paint will work over oil-based paint???

  1. Love your tray. Such a great find. I dig everywhere, and I have often been know to buy something from another vendor, up the price, place it in my booth, and sale it. :)

    xo Laura

  2. I also collect trays...
    And hobnail!!
    Love your choices...and the pink!
    Enjoy your week...
    Linda :o)

  3. A lot of the light weight trays made in Italy are actually wood. You can google them and look at some on ebay. Regardless, this is a beauty. Love the sweet roses and the milkglass and hankie.

  4. Oh so pretty!! Again, I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee your pink room. Thank you Bonnie for your kind emails..they make my day and I don't feel so alone in dealing with a rebellious teen. Blessings

  5. Your pink room is lovely, Bonnie! The tray is so pretty and the way you have the roses, hankie, and hobnail pieces arranged around it looks so attractive! A very feminine room, indeed!

  6. Love all your pretty treasures, especially the tray. It looks so pretty right where it is.

  7. Bonnie, I love how you have used the tray. You are such a good decorator. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  8. Bonnie,
What a pretty tray....and from Italy, how special! It looks very nice on the dresser. My husband bought me a china cabinet many years ago and it's from Italy, and it's something I'll never give away. I'll cherish it always.

    Have a great week.

  9. Bonnie, I love the thrill of the hunt too... Sometimes I will just go dig/hunt even though I may not find anything there is always hope that you just may find that perfect treasure.. You seem to do much better than me... :) One of the things I have had to do is really force myself to only buy it if I need it.. why? I love it all!!! lol I have given away so much since I moved... My daughters love it... They get to reap my excess of my gotta have it moments/love it It is so hard! Your tray looks great on the dresser.. Have a great day! Blessings!

  10. Love all your ideas and everything looks just lovely. One of the changes I made in this move was to pack all my teacups and pots etc. in my hatboxes. My mother's hutch now resides at my daughter Julie's home, and I unpacked all my MIL's milk glass that had been pack away in bubble wrap in my garage. It now graces my swivel hutch, and I see I have the same pieces you shared with the Q-tips and cotton balls...Nice touch. I always come away from your blog with new ideas. Thanks, dear.

  11. Hello! Enjoyed looking through your blog! Your tray and milk glass items are just beautiful! I have a special place in my heart for both! I'm your newest follower! Please stop by any time. It's been a while since I blogged last, but hopefully I can get back to it soon. Have a blessed day!

  12. I have several antique malls that I like to wander through, but as I've said before, I don't have your vision. I need to be looking for more things for my gray room - which reminds me, I plan to post it tonight, even thought it needs more stuff. (Did you understand that rambling, run on sentence?)

  13. Your tray is beautiful and matches your walls perfectly!

  14. Would you believe I have never been to an antique mall (I know, we have loads near here!). The only flea market I've been to was one that was held in our town years ago. Guess I don't get out much, hahaha! I have 'shopped' my attic and basement lately. Found some treasures I didn't know I had or found a new appreciation for. Life is good =)

  15. Love the tray and what a great find. I find a lot of things at SA. We have a great one close to me and Friday and Saturday it's 50% off of everything.
Lately i have been shopping in my garage - finding things I forgot about LOL
    Have a great week.

  16. Very lovely. I still have my mother's milk glass. Since I have no children, guess it'll end up in an antique store when I'm dead and gone. Oh well, it's just stuff anyway.
    (Don't mind me. I'm in a gloomy mood today. It'll pass.) ~:)

  17. Love the tray, Bonnie! And who cares if the flowers were painted on later? :) All that matters is that you enjoy it. I think it's pretty. As for the oil paint, I've painted over oil with latex but made sure to sand it really well first. The guy at the paint store said it would stick and it did. I'll bet chalk paint would work over oil, too.

  18. That tray is so pretty. I see why you had to have it! I adore hobnail.. I only have one piece because I will only buy cheap. And a sweet hankie... I haven't heard that said lately haha. And chalkpaint should cover the oil based paint. It covered my very shiny oak furniture with no problems... Have a great week friend!

  19. What a beautiful tray, and a lucky find! I also love hobnail milk glass. I have several pieces of it, and I just won't part with it! My "secret haunts" are usually area thrift shops!!

  20. Love the tray Bonnie and love that pink room. Also love your hobnail pieces. So pretty.

  21. Bonnie, It doesn't really matter whether your tray came from Italy or Florida, it's just so sweet! Enjoy it! Blessings, Cindy
