Discarded Made New

Have you ever felt...
well...
maybe...

insignificant?

discarded?

like an old piece of furniture
left on the side of the road?

chippy, shabby
broken, and unclean?

rough around the edges?

In your attempt to feel good enough,
you may clean up the outside.

Still, broken and chipped on the inside.

We want approval and recognition from others,
seeking to feel significant.

Angie Smith in What Women Fear write,

Certainly, it's nice to feel like you matter to those around you,
but if you are looking to them as a barometer of how
you're doing in life, you will run into obstacles...

First they are flawed the same way you are and
they can't objectively evaluate who you are.
They can have insight into what they see
of your behavior, but is God who knows your heart
as well as your breaths.

The second obstacle is that you automatically
put yourself in a position of comparison,
which leads to competition, which leads to
an altered view of yourself in light of "the winner."
Either you will be puffed up in your victory
or deflated in your failure.

Thus our view of God becomes altered.
I mean, can He love me,
love me enough to make me significant?

The thing is, it is only
IN HIM,
that I am significant.

IN HIM,
I am scrubbed clean,
given a new coat of paint,
and waxed with the oil of the Holy Spirit.

IN HIM,
I am made new!

For now,
He's still working on me!

(And I'm still working on the piece.)

  5. What a powerful post. I heard a preacher once who said, "When we accept Christ, our SALVATION is complete..but there is some Assembly requires. As the Scripture says "work out your salvation with fear and trembling..." I'm still in the process mode of living it out every day...more to assembly in my walk with HIM.

  9. Me too Bonnie! I do believe we all are a constant work in progress...made complete when we get to Heaven.. I love the analogy of the old piece of furniture... boy, how the enemy plays tricks with our minds...he definitely wants us to question our selfworth and for sure who Christ is and who we are in Him! How blessed we are that God sees right through all the ugly to the heart of the matter and sees true value in all of us.. Blessings!
