Once I Saw a Little Bird

The other day I was walking
the aisle of Hobby Lobby,
when this little bird popped out at me.

It was marked down from $12.99 to $2.99,
so you know I had to have it.

Just like it was yesterday,
I could see my little boy flying like a bird
at his Pre-K graduation.

Once I saw a little bird
come hop, hop, hop.
(These busy little 3 year olds are hopping up and down,)

And I cried, "Little bird,
won't you stop, stop, stop.
(They are pointing their fingers to the tune of no, no, no.)

I went to the window to say
"How do you do?"
( They all bow.)

And he shook his little tail
(They turn around and shake their little be-hinds.)

And away he flew.
( They are spreading their wings and flying.)

My little blond haired, blue-green-eyed little boy
was the busiest.

Before the program he had pitched a fit over wearing his Nike's.
They were supposed to wear dress shoes.
He won.

I think back now and smile.
Who cares what kind of shoes he had on.
All I remember now is how adorable he was.

What is a sweet memory you have of your child?

I'm Smiling.

Bonnie:)

  1. What a precious story and little birdie.

Your story so reminded me of a situation several years ago when our grandson Michael was graduating into High School. He wanted to wear his comfortable shoes, his dad wanted him to wear the shinny ones he had polished. My SIL ask my opinion. I said this is a special day for him. NO ONE but you will see his shoes. I think he will be so much happier in his comfy ones. Instead of going to his graduation mad, he was happy and we all enjoyed the celebration afterwards. Pick your battles!

  2. Bonnie, as a pre-school teacher I adore your post. Parents always ask what their children should wear to our end of the year program. I always tell hem to let them wear what wakes them happy. There is and will always be both extremes. B

  4. I don't have children but I was blessed to be a part of my nieces and nephews lives. I remember visiting Callaway Gardens butterfly house with my nephew and remember the look of awe in his little eyes. Such a gorgeous place to spend the day.

  5. That's such an adorable story! I love that this little bird could bring the memory back to you. Memories of my daughters at that age are so sweet (well, mostly) ;-)

  6. Love, love your story..love the birdie too. When our son was 3 yrs old, he had a Christmas pagent at his Dayschool, we couldn't find a place to sit, so we had to sit in the church balcony. He stopped in the middle of the program and he goes in a squeaky voice, "HEY! How'ed you get up there?" So cute..and I am glad no one was mad..they all laughed and ooo and awwwwed. I have that on video and look at it sometimes. Blessings

  7. Bonnie, I love you bird and the story. Once my daughter wanted to go out in the snow. She was about 6. I told her she could if she shoveled the walk. I see her walking around and around the house. I open the door and say what are you doing honey...she says, "I can't find the walk mommy". I laughed but never forgot that. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  8. Your bird story is so cute. That bird would have came with me also.
You did the right thing by letting your little boy wear his sneakers........like you said who cares what kind of shoes.........and it was his graduation ceremony

  9. What a sweet memory! This story is not quite as sweet as yours... it's more funny/embarrassing than sweet although I look back on it now and it warms my heart. You'd have to know Adam to know that he is always laughing or making someone else laugh...well, he was a teen and the youth were putting on a skit in front of the whole church on Sunday morning. Now, he ALWAYS was very good about knowing his part to a "T". Well, as they were passing the microphone back and forth to each other as each said their parts, it came Adam's turn and he drew a blank. All he could say with a panic look on his face was "OH CRAP!" The whole church nearly died laughing as this mom slowly slid down in her pew...lol!

  10. Wish we had a Hobby Lobby near us. Waycross has zip in the way of shopping. Nice little bird. I'd have to paint it red (love cardinals).
I remember in school how shoes and clothes where just everything. Don't have any specific memories today, though. Brain fade. *lol* Have a happy 4th y'all. ~:)

  11. What a sweet memory…..those kinds are my favorite.
Every time it rains I picture my Lolo standing at the living room window (at 2 1/5) singing the 'rain, rain go away song…." SO darn sweet.
